Rooting this device “Oneplus 5T” is actually quite easy and a simple process. Before start “How to root Oneplus 5T, It is recommended that each step relies on previous steps so please read it carefully and follow the entire process.
Steps You need to follow to root Oneplus 5T:-
- ADB and Fastboot Installation
- Unlocking Bootloader
- Flashing TWRP
- Restoring a Nandroid Backup
- Restoring a EFS Backup
Before start, Make sure you have the updated your system. If not sure, check it here. Go to Settings > System Updates > Download & Install the latest Update available.
Now, your phone is now updated so let’s start the rooting process of Oneplus 5T.

So, let’s start to root Oneplus 5T:-
ADB & Fastboot Installation
- 1. Download/install the ADB For Windows here Or Manually update Fastboot and ADB binaries from Here or Here
- Start the .exe file downloaded from above as Administrator.
- Press ‘Y’ whenever the installer asks for.
- Carry on the Driver Installation.
Now, ADB & Fastboot have been installed on your laptop/PC and should be Working as you wish.
Some things to remember
Battery: Ensure that your mobile phone has at least 80% battery remaining, and that your PC is plugged in and won’t shut down during the process. The rooting process doesn’t take very long , but “precautions are always better than cure” so, it’s good to have enough charge if something goes wrong.
Show File Extensions: Open a command prompt window and start “Control folders”. Go to the View tab and un-check the “Hide button for known file types” option. This will help you to not get confused when renaming files.
Backup: Unlocking the Bootloader will completely erase all data from the device. This includes settings, apps and even internal storage data (Videos, music, pictures, etc.). So, if it’s important, Transfer all your data to your PC before Rooting.
USB Debugging: On your Mobile phone go to Settings > About phone > Tap on Build number 7 times. This will enable Developer options. Now go back to Settings > Developer options > Enable USB debugging
OEM Unlocking: On your phone go to Settings > Developer options. Then enable the ‘OEM Unlocking’ option. Also ensure that, OEM unlocking option is on before you reboot your mobile phone as sometimes, it might get Off itself.
Enable Advanced Reboot: On your Mobile phone go to Settings > Developer options. Then enable the ‘Advanced Reboot’ option.
Switch off your phone. Then boot it into fastboot mode by pressing volume up + power together or select reboot to bootloader if advanced reboot is enabled via developer options. The smartphone will show “fastboot” text saying that it has successfully entered fastboot mode.
Connect the phone into your laptop/PC, then open a command prompt window on the screen (Shift + Right Click -> Open Command Window here) and type:

This command will show you all the connected devices. If your phones serial number shows up you have a green light to go & to continue. If the phone is NOT showing in the list, this indicates that your drivers are not installed properly. In order to continue you must fix your drivers so that your smartphone is showed under fastboot devices.
If the smartphone has been listed by the command above, Go ahead and start to unlocking the bootloader with the following command:
Remember this Step will Erase EVERYTHING off the phone so make sure you have already Backup all your Data.

You would be showed with a Unlock Bootloader Warning page, Hit the Volume button to select Yes and turn it Blue and press the Power Button to Execute the selection.
Your phone will restart, show you a Secure boot warning, restart into stock recovery and erase all data. Once done, your smartphone will restart into the OS.
